Water and Sanitation (WaSH) Project Manager

About the role

The ICRC is looking for a Water and Sanitation (WaSH) Project Manager to lead complex or large-scale WaSH projects, delivering them within scope, quality, time and budget. The role covers designing, implementing and overseeing water facilities projects in urban settings, managing partner relationships and ensuring effective resource allocation and reporting. It is a mobile, full-time position of 12 months, with a starting date depending on operational needs and a location to be determined globally.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain trust-based relationships with partners, including public services and client departments.
• Carry out needs assessments, feasibility studies and project proposals to define scope, resources, costs and timelines.
• Develop and implement project methodologies, technical designs and work plans in line with ICRC policies.
• Manage procurement, contracts and project teams, including consultants and contractors.
• Oversee implementation, monitor progress and propose corrective actions when challenges arise.
• Ensure proper commissioning, handover of infrastructure and stakeholder training.
• Share lessons learned and help develop sector methodologies and resources.
• Represent the ICRC in negotiations with institutions, stakeholders and communities.

Required profile

• University degree (or equivalent) and qualifying experience in hydraulics, architecture, civil engineering, environmental engineering or a related field.
• 10-12 years of professional experience in WaSH project management, including at least 2 years in the international aid sector.
• Proven experience managing consultants, contractors and contracts, and managing medium to large-scale projects.
• Project management certification is required.
• Minimum B2 French and English; a third language is an asset.
• Good health, a driving licence (manual transmission) and willingness to accept unaccompanied postings for at least the first 24 months.
