Associate General Counsel – Commodities Trading

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to become the senior legal partner for our expanding physical crude oil trading business in Geneva. The role offers high autonomy from day one and the chance to shape legal support as the Geneva platform grows.

Key responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on legal advice on trading, supply and related commercial matters for a physical crude oil business.
• Partner directly with traders and senior business leaders, delivering pragmatic, commercially‑focused guidance.
• Draft, review and negotiate trading and commercial agreements.
• Identify and advise on legal and regulatory risks arising from international commodities transactions.
• Collaborate with Compliance and other control functions to balance business enablement with risk management.
• Support the development of the Geneva operation into new markets and products.
• Operate independently while staying connected to the global Legal & Compliance team.

Required profile

• 10+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in commodities or energy.
• Strong, hands‑on experience supporting crude oil trading.
• Common‑law qualification and significant in‑house experience within a trading environment.
• Proven ability to work directly with traders and senior commercial stakeholders.
• Maturity and judgement to operate autonomously in a senior role.

• Expertise in physical commodities trading contracts and commercial frameworks.
• Knowledge of international commodities regulations.
• Ability to draft and negotiate complex trading agreements.
