Chief of Enterprise Branch – Economic Affairs

About the role

The Chief of the Enterprise Branch leads the Division on Investment and Enterprise at UNCTAD, shaping and delivering the programme on sustainability, accounting, corporate governance, entrepreneurship and business facilitation. Reporting to the Division Director, the role ensures high‑quality outputs and effective coordination across UN bodies.

Key responsibilities

• Formulate and implement the Enterprise Branch work programme and supervise its execution.
• Coordinate activities of work units covering sustainability, accounting, corporate governance, entrepreneurship and business facilitation.
• Prepare and present reports to intergovernmental bodies such as ECOSOC, the General Assembly, the Trade and Development Board and other policy‑making organs.
• Ensure all outputs meet high‑quality standards, are data‑driven and comply with UN mandates.
• Assist the Division Director in setting priorities, allocating resources and developing the overall work plan.
• Oversee budgeting, results‑based budgeting, programme performance reporting and staff performance evaluations.
• Manage recruitment, conduct interviews and evaluate candidates for branch positions.
• Lead, guide, develop and train branch staff, fostering teamwork and cross‑organizational communication.
• Organise meetings, seminars and events on sustainability, accounting and entrepreneurship issues.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in managing programmes on sustainability, accounting, corporate governance, entrepreneurship and business facilitation.
• Proven ability to prepare and present reports to intergovernmental bodies such as ECOSOC, the General Assembly and the Trade and Development Board.
• Experience in budgeting, results‑based budgeting and programme performance reporting.
• Demonstrated leadership in supervising staff, conducting performance evaluations and overseeing recruitment processes.
• Strong coordination skills across UN agencies and internal divisions.
