Computer Security Architect – Security Operations Centre

About the role

The Computer Security Architect will join CERN's Computer Security Office to strengthen the Security Operations Centre (SOC) and secure the laboratory's external cloud services. You will work with open‑source tooling and cloud platforms to protect critical research infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, support and extend the SOC infrastructure using technologies such as Zeek, OpenSearch, Apache Kafka, Kubernetes and MISP.
• Configure newly contracted external cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Oracle) to apply optimal security settings.
• Review and improve the security posture of existing Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace SaaS configurations.
• Contribute to additional computer‑security projects and provide consultancy, including penetration testing.

Required profile

• Experience in network design, communication protocols and system administration.
• Background in computer security, secure configurations, security analysis and cloud‑focused penetration testing.
• Ideally, experience monitoring and responding to security incidents for ICT systems.
• Eligibility: national of a CERN Member or Associate State, ≤2 years professional experience after a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, no prior CERN contract.

Required skills

• Linux/UNIX operating systems, virtualization and databases.
• Shell scripting and programming in Python and/or C.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud frameworks.
• Secure software development best practices for AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft cloud environments.
• Fluent written and spoken English; willingness to learn French.
