Economic Affairs Officer – UNCTAD (Temporary)

About the role

The Economic Affairs Officer will join the Trade Analysis Branch of UNCTAD in Geneva, reporting to the Head of the Branch. This temporary full‑time position supports economic and sector analysis, technical cooperation and the preparation of policy inputs on international trade and development.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain socio‑economic databases and qualitative information for recurrent and ad‑hoc assignments.
• Apply and adapt econometric models to identify trends, patterns and policy impacts.
• Draft inputs for technical papers, analytical studies and policy briefs on global, regional, national or sectoral trade issues.
• Monitor and analyse policy proposals related to assigned topics and represent UNCTAD at international meetings.
• Support organization of expert group meetings, seminars and training sessions for national experts.
• Prepare speeches and presentation materials for senior staff.
• Participate in development missions, contribute to technical cooperation project documentation and monitor implementation.
• Undertake administrative tasks and on‑the‑job training as required.

Required profile

• Strong background in economics, preferably with experience in trade, sustainable development or related sectors.
• Ability to conduct independent research, assess data quality and incorporate gender perspectives.
• Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills.
• Capacity to work under pressure, meet deadlines and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
