Environmental Project Affairs Intern

About the role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is seeking an Environmental Project Affairs Intern to support the UN Development Account project “Empowering Women in Urban and Food Forest Management at local and national level”. Based in Geneva, the intern will work under the project manager and the Forests and Air Section staff, contributing to gender‑responsive urban and food forest planning.

Key responsibilities

• Assist national assessments of urban and food forest planning, focusing on integrating gender considerations into governance, policy and action.
• Support the organization of workshops on planning, financing and managing urban and food forests with an emphasis on women’s empowerment.
• Help prepare an online training module aimed at empowering women in forest planning and management.
• Contribute to the development of a digital forest data collection and dissemination module on the UNECE INForest Data Platform.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a bachelor’s degree (final year) or a graduate programme (master’s or PhD).
• Field of study related to environment, forestry, gender studies, urban planning or a similar discipline.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of French or Russian is a plus.
