Equipment Management Database Specialist for CMS LS3

About the role

The CERN CMS experiment is preparing for Long Shutdown 3 (LS3). The Equipment Management Database Specialist will ensure that every piece of equipment installed or removed during this period is accurately recorded in the CMS Equipment Management Database (EMdb). This role bridges the physical inventory with the digital system, guaranteeing data consistency and supporting the experiment’s asset lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Synchronise the EMdb with on‑site installation and de‑commissioning activities to maintain data integrity.
• Act as the liaison between field inventory teams and the database, ensuring all changes are reflected promptly.
• Maintain, support and enhance the EMdb and its applications, adding new features, dashboards and visualisation tools.
• Drive continuous improvements to streamline equipment registration, cable management and asset traceability.
• Provide on‑site support during installation campaigns to align physical assets with the database inventory.
• Collaborate with CERN Enterprise Asset Management to ensure interoperability across CERN‑wide infrastructure.

Required profile

• Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Applied Physics or a related field.
• Proven experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Background in web‑application development using technologies such as Oracle APEX, PHP, JavaScript and client‑oriented APIs.
