Head of Risk – UNEP Finance Initiative

About the role

The Head of Risk will lead UNEP FI’s risk programme, shaping the integration of environmental and social risk considerations into the financial sector’s risk management practices. Reporting to senior leadership, the role will engage chief risk officers, develop strategic risk resources, and promote the programme’s value to UNEP FI members.

Key responsibilities

• Engage risk teams and chief risk officers in UNEP FI’s risk programming.
• Align the risk programme with PRB, PSI and climate commitments, enhancing work plans and materials.
• Support UNEP FI’s strategy on risk topics for banking, insurance, regulators and supervisors.
• Develop and deliver a robust work programme, convening internal and external stakeholders to produce science‑based risk content.
• Assess financial institutions’ needs on environmental and social risks and advance integrated risk management solutions.
• Produce high‑quality technical reviews of risk team outputs and ensure relevance to upcoming sector priorities.
• Establish partnerships with service providers, modelers and academic institutions to strengthen science‑based risk analysis.
• Create a long‑term resourcing plan and promote risk outputs through online channels and events.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in risk management within the banking, insurance or financial regulatory environment.
• Strong understanding of environmental, social and climate‑related risk issues.
• Proven ability to engage senior risk officers and lead multi‑stakeholder programmes.
• Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills.

Required skills

• Risk assessment and integrated risk management methodologies.
• Knowledge of sustainability frameworks (e.g., PRB, PSI, climate commitments).
