Mechanical Assembly Operator – Space Sector (Zurich)

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Assembly Operator to join a leading centre of excellence that develops optical, quantum‑based communication and opto‑electronic systems for satellite and space applications. The role involves assembling, integrating and testing mechanical components and sub‑assemblies in a highly regulated space environment.

Key responsibilities

• Clean and prepare components according to detailed specifications.
• Perform mechanical integration of components, sub‑assemblies, instruments and full systems following drawings and space industry standards.
• Execute bonding operations using SW2216, silver glue and Masterbond.
• Document integration steps, maintain traceability records and generate As‑Run and As‑Built documentation.
• Support test campaigns by handling hardware and performing mechanical activities.
• Provide technical input to IVVQ and design teams to ensure efficient integration.
• Assist with incoming inspections, packing for storage/transport and, when required, manufacture of mechanical parts (drilling, milling, machining).

Required profile

• Proven experience in opto‑mechanical assembly and bonding within the space sector or a similarly complex industry (defence, aerospace, watchmaking).
• Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
• Independent, careful and structured work approach.
• Experience in clean‑room environments is a plus.
• Fluent English; German language skills are an advantage.
• Comfortable working in international, interdisciplinary teams.
