Professor & Head of Institute of Health Economics (80–100%)

About the role

The Winterthur Institute of Health Economics (WIG) is seeking a new Head as part of a planned succession. The role combines senior academic leadership with a full professorship, overseeing more than 30 faculty and staff and driving the institute’s strategic development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the further development of the institute together with the heads of four research centres (Health Economic Research, HTA & Health Economic Evaluation, Health Care Management, Health Services Research, and Education & Services).
• Collaborate with senior team members to generate third‑party funding, maintaining an external funding ratio of approximately 80 %.
• Contribute to teaching and research in one of the institute’s topical areas as a full professor.

Required profile

• Health economist with a PhD in Economics, Health Economics or a closely related discipline and a strong publication record in leading peer‑reviewed journals.
• Entrepreneurial mindset, proven leadership, and excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Demonstrated success in acquiring substantial third‑party funding and competitive research grants.
• Established professional network in national and international healthcare and academic sectors.
• Deep understanding of the Swiss healthcare system, its regulatory framework and current policy challenges.
• Extensive experience in policy‑relevant, applied health‑economic research.
• Ability to teach and mentor diverse audiences in both German and English.
