Research Scientist – AI/ML

About the role

Google Research is seeking a Research Scientist to advance AI/ML technologies, particularly large language models (LLMs). You will design experiments, prototype implementations, and develop new architectures that address real‑world problems across machine learning, data mining, natural language processing, and system performance.

Key responsibilities

• Stay current on academic literature related to LLM capabilities, autorating, user simulation, and evaluation.
• Understand Google’s existing rating and agentic systems and identify improvement opportunities.
• Build and deliver functional systems that integrate with Google products while respecting serving constraints.
• Set up large‑scale tests, deploy promising ideas quickly, and manage deadlines and deliverables.
• Contribute to the broader research community by publishing findings and collaborating with academic partners.

Required profile

• PhD in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least one scientific publication submitted to top conferences or journals (e.g., CVPR, ICCV, NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR).
• Minimum 2 years of coding experience and a proven track record of delivering software engineering systems.
• Ability to work well in a team, accept new ideas, and understand existing ML literature.
