Senior Android Software Engineer

About the role

Based in our Geneva office, you will join a high‑impact product team working on privacy‑first services such as Proton Mail, Calendar, Drive, VPN and more. As a senior Android engineer you will help design, build and ship high‑quality Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, collaborating closely with product, design and engineering colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and ship Android features for multiple Proton products, ensuring performance, security and scalability.
• Take end‑to‑end ownership of features from design through delivery and iteration.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define the user experience and technical implementation.
• Maintain and evolve a clean, testable, and scalable mobile architecture.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise the technical bar across the team.
• Contribute to discussions on product direction, privacy, and security requirements.

Required profile

• Extensive experience delivering high‑quality Android applications with Kotlin.
• Strong proficiency with Jetpack Compose and modern Android development practices.
• Passion for product quality, usability and exceptional user experiences.
• Proven ability to own features from concept to production.
• Comfortable working in large codebases and across multiple teams.
• Experience mentoring engineers and improving team standards.
• Deep understanding of performance, concurrency, multithreading and mobile memory management.
• Knowledge of mobile scalability, caching, network usage and offline behavior.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and contribute to product and technical discussions.
