Senior Operator – Oil & Gas Trading & Shipping

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Operator to join the Operations Department of Sahara Group. Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will oversee the end‑to‑end execution of oil and gas trading and shipping activities, ensuring contracts are fulfilled on time, in compliance and cost‑effectively.

Key responsibilities

• Review and verify trading contracts, confirming quantities, quality specifications and delivery terms.
• Nominate vessels, manage terminal slot allocation, lay‑can windows and coordinate with shipping and logistics partners.
• Monitor vessel movements, handle schedule changes, diversions and delays while keeping traders informed.
• Prepare and issue documentary instructions for letters of credit, customs and contractual compliance.
• Review, approve and archive shipping documents such as bills of lading, certificates of origin, quality & quantity certificates and health‑safety paperwork.
• Ensure adherence to customs, export/import controls, sanctions and environmental regulations, flagging any compliance risks.
• Appoint inspectors, superintendents and other service providers as required by contracts.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in oil & gas shipping, terminal operations and commodity physical trading.
• Proven ability to coordinate across traders, counterparties, chartering teams and finance departments.
• Strong understanding of contractual terms, regulatory frameworks and documentation standards.
• High level of accountability with a focus on risk mitigation and cost optimisation.

Required skills

• Knowledge of bills of lading, certificates of origin and quality & quantity certification processes.
• Familiarity with customs procedures, letters of credit and export/import control regulations.
