Associate Legal Officer

About the role

The Associate Legal Officer will support the Office of the Legal Counsel in Geneva, providing legal research, analysis, and drafting across public international law, treaty law, administrative law and contract law. The role is a two‑year fixed‑term position within a dynamic, multicultural environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and analysis for the three sections of the Office of the Legal Counsel.
• Assist with treaty‑depository functions, including preparation of notifications and record maintenance.
• Support the review and clearance of agreements, memoranda of understanding and partnership arrangements.
• Prepare pleadings and documents for the WIPO Appeal Board and the ILO Administrative Tribunal.
• Provide legal advice on IT, digital transformation, data governance, procurement, property management and financial matters.

Required profile

• First‑level university degree in law; advanced degree preferred.
• At least three years of relevant professional experience in legal research, drafting and advice.
• Experience in public international law, treaty law, administrative law or contract law.
• Excellent written and spoken English; good working knowledge of French.

Required skills

• Proficiency with legal research databases.
• Experience using document management systems.
• Competence in digital productivity tools and technology adaptability.
