Data Privacy Specialist

About the role

The Data Privacy Specialist will join CERN's Office of Data Privacy within the CIO office, providing independent legal and operational advice on personal data protection across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Advise CERN management, data subjects and external entities on compliance with data privacy requirements throughout the data lifecycle.
• Manage or contribute to privacy projects, including international data‑sharing initiatives, contracts, risk assessments and data‑transfer arrangements.
• Oversee data‑subject rights, grievance handling and breach response, and promote a strong privacy culture through training and awareness campaigns.
• Monitor and improve CERN’s data‑privacy framework to align with evolving regulations and best practices.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Law, Data Protection, Privacy, IT or related field.
• Proven expertise in data protection, preferably with extensive experience applying EU data‑protection rules.
• Experience working in an international environment and dealing with EU bodies or inter‑governmental organisations.
• Ability to act independently and impartially.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of EU data‑protection regulations.
• Drafting and writing official privacy documents.
• Stakeholder relationship management with data‑protection authorities and DPO networks.
• Risk assessment for compliance, compliance auditing and data‑protection impact analysis.
