Associate Population Affairs Officer – UN Economic Commission for Europe

About the role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) is seeking an Associate Population Affairs Officer to join its Population Unit in Geneva. The role focuses on population policy, especially ageing, intergenerational and gender relations, and supports intergovernmental processes across the UNECE region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist intergovernmental processes on population issues, including drafting inputs, summarising meetings and organising panels and round‑tables.
• Support the Standing Working Group on Ageing and related expert group meetings, liaising with national focal points, NGOs, scientific experts and other stakeholders.
• Conduct analytical tasks for the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA) and contribute to regional and global conference follow‑up.
• Prepare policy briefs, technical studies and maintain a dataset of good practice examples on ageing, intergenerational and gender topics.
• Develop content for the UNECE Ageing Policies Database, coordinate subcontractors and participate in its technical development.
• Undertake any additional tasks as required.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of population ageing and related policy challenges in UNECE member states.
• Familiarity with intergovernmental processes and experience drafting policy papers and recommendations.
• Ability to assess the validity and accuracy of information, research and studies.
• Professionalism, attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a multicultural environment.
