CITES Legal Unit Internship (2 positions)

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking two interns for its CITES Legal Unit in Geneva. The internship supports the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) by assisting with research, document preparation, and analysis of Party submissions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and analysis related to specific Conference of the Parties (CoP) decisions and resolutions.
• Gather background information for substantive meeting documents.
• Prepare documents for meetings of permanent committees.
• Compile and analyse information submitted by Parties in response to calls for information.
• Support the organization of annual meetings, workshops, and ad‑hoc consultations as assigned.

Required profile

• Enrolled in the final year of a bachelor’s programme, a graduate programme, or already graduated.
• Academic background in law (public, international, environmental) or related social sciences.
• Strong analytical and writing abilities.

Required skills

• Excellent written communication skills.
