Court Interpreter I (English, Spanish, Portuguese)

About the role

The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch is hiring a Court Interpreter I to deliver professional interpreting and translation services in English, Spanish and Portuguese for Superior Court proceedings throughout the state.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret simultaneously, consecutively, and via sight‑translation in courtrooms, hearings, arraignments and attorney‑client conferences.
• Make court announcements in Spanish or Portuguese as directed by the judge.
• Maintain accurate records of interpreting services, prepare activity reports, and enter data into automated record‑keeping systems.
• Assist defendants in completing court‑related forms through interpreting and draft translations of forms and documents.
• Participate in individual or group training to develop and maintain interpreting and translation competencies.

Required profile

• Fluency in English and Spanish or Portuguese, with the ability to interpret both directions.
• Demonstrated proficiency in simultaneous, consecutive, and sight‑translation modes.
• Strong written communication skills for drafting translations and reports.
• Ability to work under the supervision of a Lead Court Interpreter and follow court directives.
