Data Engineer - Snowflake, dbt, Data Vault

About the role

Vontobel is looking for a Data Engineer to join its Data Engineering team and help shape a strategic data platform built on Snowflake, dbt and Data Vault. The role designs scalable data solutions, integrates data from across the organization and creates reusable business objects that power analytics, reporting and data-driven decisions. The position is based in Zurich and will move to Baar in 2030.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain robust data pipelines on Snowflake using dbt.
• Develop and enhance Data Vault models, including Hubs, Links, Satellites and Business Vault components.
• Create reusable business objects and data products supporting enterprise-wide reporting, analytics and regulatory requirements.
• Integrate data from a wide range of source systems into a centralized data platform.
• Apply metadata-driven development to increase automation, consistency and scalability.
• Collaborate with business analysts, architects and data consumers to turn requirements into sustainable data solutions.
• Ensure data quality, traceability, lineage and governance across the data lifecycle.
• Optimize data models and transformations for performance, maintainability and cost efficiency.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and DataOps, and share knowledge to raise the efficiency of other team members.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or a related discipline.
• Proven experience as a data engineer, analytics engineer or in a similar role.
• Deep understanding of data historization principles, including bi-temporal and multi-temporal modeling.
• Good knowledge of Data Vault and dimensional modelling, and enterprise data warehousing concepts.
• Experience with modern cloud-based data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Data Bricks).
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills; affinity for AI and willingness to use AI-enabled tools.

Required skills

• SQL expert, with thorough experience of dbt (model development, testing, sim ci, custom materializations and macros)
• Hands-on experience with pandas and data frame processing, and Snowpark expertise
• Familiarity with git-based workflows, CI/CD and automated data testing
• C# or Rust is a plus; experience with data quality, governance and metadata management is a plus
