Doctoral Student in Magnetic Resonance for Granular Systems
ETH Zurich · Zurich
Job description
About the role
ETH Zurich's Institute for Biomedical Engineering is looking for a physicist or engineer to join its magnetic resonance research group, led by Prof. Klaas Prüssmann. The project focuses on using magnetic resonance to track particles in granular systems, including the shape of particles and how soft, deformable particles affect granular dynamics. It is a shared effort with colleagues in process engineering and includes two doctoral positions; this one is at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Advance magnetic resonance technology and methods for studying granular systems made of arbitrarily shaped and soft particles
- Work on the principles of particle tracking and imaging, and create new methods
- Implement these methods on magnetic resonance equipment and explore them experimentally in granular systems
- Collaborate with the partner doctoral student on fabricating tailored and soft particles, applied studies in granular systems science and setting up experiments
Required profile
- Master's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another programme covering Physics and Mathematics substantially
- Good command of English, spoken and written
- Analytical strength, intellectual rigor, creativity, intrinsic motivation and team orientation
- Previous experience with magnetic resonance or granular systems is a benefit but not required
What we offer
- The chance to carry out leading research in a dynamic, collegial team
- An exciting academic environment with excellent infrastructure
- Career development prospects and a competitive salary
Applications must be submitted online through the university's application portal, with a short motivation letter, CV, transcripts and names of two references.
