Electronics/Electrical Technician – Power Converter Systems

About the role

CERN’s Electrical Power Converter Group is looking for three hands‑on electronics/electrical technicians to support modernisation, consolidation and infrastructure projects for the accelerator complex. You will work closely with engineers, industrial support teams and central services in an international, collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test, commission and maintain power converter systems ranging from 10 kW to several tens of MW.
• Deploy and configure control electronics and related infrastructure.
• Renovate and upgrade converter control electronics and associated hardware.
• Develop and validate electronic boards, low‑level analog and digital interfaces.
• Assemble, test and install electronic crates, racks and cabinets.
• Provide operational support, fault‑finding and corrective interventions in the field.
• Coordinate and supervise control‑infrastructure installations.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience with electrical and electronic systems.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, international team.
• Willingness to contribute to projects during CERN’s Long Shutdown 3 (LS3).

Required skills

• Installation, testing and commissioning of power converter systems.
• Analog and digital electronics design and validation.
• Assembly of electronic crates, racks and cabinets.
• Fault finding and corrective maintenance.
• Control electronics configuration and integration.
• Experience with high‑power converter installations, switch‑mode converters and thyristor systems.
• Knowledge of Static Var Compensator (SVC) modernisation.
