Engineering Internship - AI/Data

About the role

We are looking for a motivated engineering intern to join our Zurich‑based AI startup. You will work on real‑world AI systems that automate legal insurance coverage checks, gaining hands‑on experience with data pipelines, LLM agents, and evaluation infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Build and improve ingestion pipelines for policy documents, legal texts, and case descriptions.
• Support AI‑ready structuring tasks such as chunking, metadata extraction, and schema design.
• Prototype and implement LLM‑driven workflows for coverage analysis, fact extraction, and decision drafting.
• Assist with search and retrieval strategies, including embeddings and hybrid retrieval.
• Create evaluation sets, run experiments, analyse failures and contribute to production improvements.
• Write clean TypeScript code, add tests, and enhance observability for services.
• Collaborate closely with the founder and domain experts, documenting decisions and sharing learnings.

Required profile

• Near completion of a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field.
• Strong programming ability, preferably with TypeScript/Node.js.
• Good understanding of data structures, algorithms and handling messy real‑world data.
• Working knowledge of SQL, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Interest in applied AI/ML systems such as LLMs, embeddings and retrieval.
