Engineering Internships in Robotics and Autonomous Drones

About the role

Flyability is looking for motivated engineering interns to join its robotics team in Lausanne. You will work on cutting‑edge drone technology, contributing to the development of localization, mapping and autonomous navigation for the Elios 3 platform, a collision‑tolerant flying robot designed for hazardous indoor inspections.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and benchmark SLAM algorithms, including global relocalization and place‑recognition methods.
• Improve robustness by detecting and rejecting false localization matches.
• Integrate and validate algorithms within the SLAM framework using both simulation environments and real‑world flight data.
• Design and enhance autonomous navigation and environmental‑understanding algorithms for indoor missions.
• Work on planning and decision‑making modules to ensure reliable mission execution.
• Evaluate system performance across accuracy, efficiency, robustness and failure cases.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Strong analytical mindset with a passion for translating research into practical solutions.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross‑functional R&D teams.
