Freight Controller – Senior Financial Controller in Bulk Commodities

About the role

We are seeking a senior Freight Controller to join an international bulk commodities trader. The role sits within the freight trading business and is responsible for overseeing the financial and operational aspects of dry‑bulk vessel voyages from fixture to completion.

Key responsibilities

• Manage voyages, coordinating loading, discharge, vessel positioning and schedule monitoring.
• Review charter party terms, ensure compliance, monitor laytime and identify demurrage or dispatch exposure.
• Issue voyage instructions, handle documentation, monitor port congestion and arrange bunker supply.
• Approve operational expenses, review port disbursement accounts and verify freight cost estimates against actuals.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities and support claims or dispute resolution.
• Monitor weather disruptions, sanctions and trade compliance, and coordinate contingency plans.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in an international freight trading environment, focused on dry‑bulk vessels.
• Strong understanding of charter party clauses, laytime calculations and freight cost structures.
• Proven ability to manage operational coordination, cost control and risk management.
