IT Security Engineer – Microsoft 365

About the role

MDPI is expanding its Information Security team and seeks an IT Security Engineer to strengthen the security of its Microsoft 365 environment and overall infrastructure. The role combines hands‑on security implementation with monitoring, incident response, and collaboration with development teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in implementing and maintaining security measures for Microsoft 365 services, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams and Azure Entra.
• Monitor security alerts and incidents, escalating when necessary and ensuring timely resolution.
• Maintain and optimise IT, network security and backup systems according to service requirements.
• Collaborate with development teams to optimise system implementation and integration.
• Provide L2/L3 support for security‑related issues to internal users.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Cybersecurity or equivalent practical experience.
• Basic understanding of Microsoft 365 services and related security concepts.
• Familiarity with Linux operating systems and Bash scripting.
• Ability to work independently, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Azure Entra).
• Linux system hardening and Bash scripting.
• Security monitoring and incident response.
• Knowledge of AWS security tools and services (preferred).
• Experience with security assessments, penetration testing and vulnerability remediation (preferred).
• Understanding of access control, encryption and vulnerability management.
