Junior Accountant

About the role

Lastminute.com, a European travel-tech leader in dynamic holiday packages, is looking for a Junior Accountant to join its accountancy team in Chiasso. Reporting to the Swiss Finance Manager, the accountant contributes to the accounting closing of the Swiss, Italian and UK entities of the group and oversees general accounting operations by controlling and verifying financial transactions. The role suits an autonomous professional with 3-4 years of experience who can manage the full accounting cycle, from journal entries to the preparation of simple annual statutory financial statements.

Key responsibilities

• Reconcile general ledger accounts and other GL accounts
• Perform accounting analyses and reporting to support decision-making
• Review and recommend changes to accounting systems and procedures
• Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules
• Support month-end and year-end closing
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls
• Ensure compliance with GAAP principles and liaise with the Finance Manager to improve financial procedures
• Support the preparation of annual statutory financial statements
• Ensure tax compliance and tax deadlines, with a focus on Italian tax legislation, VAT (IVA) compliance and declarations
• Assist with tax audits and tax returns, and interact with internal and external auditors

Required profile

• Degree or certificate in Accounting, Business, Economics or a similar field
• At least 2-3 years in a similar role and/or in an audit firm
• Fluency in English and Italian
• Knowledge of Italian tax legislation, especially VAT (IVA) and related declarations
• Legally authorised to work in the country of employment, without need for visa sponsorship

Required skills

• Good office knowledge
• Desirable: experience in travel agency accounting and tax legislation
• Desirable: experience with Microsoft Business Central ERP software
• Desirable: experience in a Big Four audit firm
