Lead Auditor - Banking

About the role

An experienced Lead Auditor is needed to join the Group Internal Audit function of an international private bank. The role provides broad exposure to financial crime, conduct risk, operational and regulatory topics across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage internal audit assignments from scoping and risk assessment through to reporting and follow‑up.
• Produce clear, concise audit reports and recommendations for senior management, Audit Committees and Board‑level stakeholders.
• Build trusted relationships with business leaders, provide independent challenge and guidance, and track remediation actions.
• Act as primary audit contact for designated international offices and support audit planning for those locations.
• Participate in special reviews, investigations and strategic projects, offering subject‑matter expertise on key risk and regulatory areas.

Required profile

• Degree or banking qualification in finance, economics or business; professional certification such as CIA, CFA or CPA is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience leading banking audits within internal or external audit.
• Strong understanding of banking regulations, governance and risk‑management frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, stakeholder‑management and communication skills.
• Fluent English; additional languages (Spanish, German, French) are a strong plus.
• Willingness to travel internationally (~30 days per year) and ability to work full‑time onsite in the Basel region.
