Lead Auditor SMETA – Freelance (Switzerland)

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking an experienced Lead Auditor specialized in SMETA to conduct social and environmental accountability audits for clients in Switzerland. The role is performed as an independent consultant with a flexible operational base and frequent travel to client sites.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and report SMETA audits, ensuring compliance with version 6 and later standards.
• Identify non‑conformities, assess social and environmental risks, and provide strategic recommendations to improve supply‑chain sustainability.
• Maintain audit documentation using audit software and document‑management systems, and communicate findings in the required language.

Required profile

• Degree in Engineering, Social Sciences, Law, Human Resources or related field.
• Lead Auditor SMETA certification (mandatory) and at least 3‑5 years of SMETA audit experience with industrial clients.
• Fluent in at least one of Italian, French or German; English preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with audit software and document‑management systems.
• Strong knowledge of the SMETA Standard (v6+) and ESG analysis techniques.
• Experience in supply‑chain traceability and social/environmental risk assessment.
