Legal Officer – International Administrative Law

About the role

The Legal Officer will work in the General and Administrative Law Division of IOM, providing legal advice and services related to the organization’s legal framework, especially human‑resources matters.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on staff misconduct cases, disciplinary processes and non‑disciplinary measures.
• Review legality of contested decisions and represent IOM in internal justice processes, including the Joint Appeals Review Board and ILOAT.
• Analyze investigation reports from the Office of Internal Oversight and review personnel policies and contracts.
• Assist with roll‑out of Unified Staff Rules and advise on privileges, immunities and employment‑related litigation.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law (or Bachelor’s with seven years experience) from an accredited university.
• At least five years of professional experience, including four years in International Administrative Law, staff misconduct cases and drafting ILOAT pleadings.
• Fluency in English (oral and written); knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Required skills

• Excellent legal writing and research abilities.
• In‑depth knowledge of public international law, ILOAT jurisprudence and international administrative law.
