Legal Officer – International Administrative Law

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks a Legal Officer to join its General & Administrative Law Division. The role provides legal advice on staff‑related matters, privileges and immunities, and represents IOM in internal justice proceedings.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice on privileges, immunities, tax exemption, and related issues affecting IOM personnel.
• Draft submissions for administrative and tribunal proceedings, including before the Joint Administrative Review Board and the ILO Administrative Tribunal.
• Review investigation reports, assess the need for disciplinary action, and advise senior officials on administrative law matters.
• Attend internal and external meetings relevant to the division and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law (or Bachelor’s with seven years’ experience) from an accredited institution.
• At least five years of professional experience, including four years in International Administrative Law and staff misconduct cases.
• Fluency in English (oral and written); additional UN official language knowledge is an advantage.

Required skills

• Excellent legal writing and research abilities.
• Strong knowledge of public international law, especially ILOAT jurisprudence and international administrative law.
