Senior Legal Officer

About the role

The Senior Legal Officer will work under the Head of the General and Administrative Law Division, providing legal advice and services to support IOM’s operations worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on misconduct cases, disciplinary processes and non‑disciplinary measures.
• Review legality of contested decisions, represent IOM in internal justice processes and the ILO Administrative Tribunal.
• Assist with rollout of Unified Staff Rules and advise on privileges, immunities and employment disputes.
• Prepare legal advice on personnel policies, contractual terms and complex administrative law matters.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law (or equivalent) with at least seven years of relevant experience, or a law degree with nine years of experience.
• Minimum four years of practising law in an international organization, focusing on international administrative law.
• Demonstrated experience with administrative investigations and disciplinary matters.

Required skills

• Strong research and analytical abilities.
• Sound knowledge of international administrative tribunals jurisprudence and UN staff conditions of service.
