Legal/Economic Affairs Officer

About the role

The World Trade Organization is seeking an entry‑level Legal/Economic Affairs Officer to support the Accessions Division. The incumbent will work closely with senior staff and member delegations to facilitate accession negotiations and ensure alignment with WTO rules.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as Secretary/Co‑Secretary for at least three accession Working Parties, preparing meeting materials, reports, and briefing notes.
• Provide information and advice to delegations and senior management on accession‑related matters.
• Assist in organizing technical assistance and capacity‑building activities in coordination with relevant divisions.
• Conduct research and analysis on economic and trade issues related to new accessions.
• Contribute to other division activities as required.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in economics, international relations, law, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of WTO accession requirements and the commitments under WTO Agreements.
• Excellent drafting ability and clear written communication skills.
• Analytical capability to research, synthesize, and present complex trade‑related material.
