Mechanical Design Engineer – SAFing Systems

About the role

Destinus is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of SAFing systems for UAV platforms. You will be responsible for designing, testing, and integrating energetic and pyrotechnic sub‑systems that enable safe and reliable mission execution.

Key responsibilities

• Design airborne munitions components from concept through manufacturing, integration and testing.
• Generate 3D CAD models, drawings, schematics, bills of material and related documentation.
• Design and qualify energetic and pyrotechnic sub‑systems such as fuzes, SAUs and ISDs.
• Produce technical documentation, calculations and analysis to substantiate design decisions.
• Manage suppliers and manufacturers, addressing technical queries and resolving production issues.
• Select standard parts, fasteners, equipment and consumables following best practices and industry standards.
• Contribute to Digital Mock‑Up (DMU) and configuration management activities.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of R&D experience in safety‑critical or defence manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of machining, sheet‑metal forming, composites and additive manufacturing processes.
• Experience designing warheads, munitions, SAU, ISD and fuzes.
• Excellent CAD and PLM expertise, preferably Siemens NX and TeamCenter.
• Solid engineering fundamentals: dimensioning, load‑path analysis, stress calculations, energy and power.
• Familiarity with STANAG standards and safety‑critical system design.
• ISO/ASME GD&T knowledge is a plus.
• BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering or related field; explosives handling licence is advantageous.
