Professor in Digital Spaces (60-80%)

About the role

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) seeks a professor to develop learning methods, theories and practices in the emerging field of digital spaces. The position is 60‑80% and combines research, teaching and strategic development of the BA programme.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and strengthen education and research in digital spaces, including innovative teaching methods.
• Secure externally funded research projects, publish academic work and present findings at conferences, festivals and exhibitions.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the BA degree programme and foster links between research and teaching across the university.
• Establish and expand a regional and international network for the Digital Spaces sector and deepen collaborations with industry partners.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (MA) required; PhD or several years of comparable research experience in a design discipline is preferred.
• Proven track record of research and teaching in areas such as Interaction Design, Critical Media, Digital Social Spaces, Generative AI, UX/UI Design, Data Literacy, etc.
• Established research network, high‑quality research output and successful external funding acquisition.
• Excellent communication, organisational skills and fluency in German and English (written and spoken).
