Regional Analyst – Africa & Middle East (UNEP FI)

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) is seeking a Consultant to serve as the Africa and Middle East (AME) Regional Analyst. Working remotely, you will support the Regional Lead in advancing sustainable finance principles across banks, insurers and development institutions in the region.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Regional Lead in engaging financial institutions on the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) and Principles for Sustainable Insurance (PSI).
• Conduct research and analysis on regional market trends, regulatory frameworks and sustainability initiatives.
• Prepare briefing notes, reports and outreach materials for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support the design and delivery of capacity‑building activities, webinars and peer‑learning events.
• Contribute to the expansion of UNEP FI’s network and partnerships within the UN system, governments and the private sector.

Required profile

• Relevant university degree (e.g., economics, finance, environmental studies, or related field).
• Demonstrated experience working with financial institutions or sustainability projects in Africa and/or the Middle East.
• Strong understanding of sustainable finance frameworks such as PRB and PSI.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
