Research Fellowship – Experimental Physics

About the role

You will join one of CERN’s experimental physics groups as a Research Fellow, leading your own research programme at the frontier of particle physics. The position offers a highly collaborative, international environment where you will analyse data, contribute to detector design, construction or operations, and take part in the full cycle of physics data analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent research in experimental particle physics within a chosen CERN research group.
• Analyse experimental data and develop physics analyses from design to interpretation.
• Contribute to detector design, construction, commissioning and operational activities.
• Collaborate with physicists, engineers and international teams on studies of particle interactions.
• Present and discuss research results at seminars, workshops and conferences.

Required profile

• Strong background in experimental particle physics or a closely related field.
• Research experience aligned with CERN’s experimental facilities.
• Motivation to join a research group and contribute to high‑impact scientific work.
• PhD obtained (or to be obtained within six months) and no more than six years of post‑doctoral experience.
• Never previously held a CERN fellowship.

• Effective scientific communication, including presenting and discussing results.
• Capacity to work independently while contributing to shared research objectives.

• Monthly stipend of 7 004–7 425 CHF (tax‑free) depending on degree.
• 30 days paid leave per year plus a two‑week annual closure.
