Research Scientist - Gas Insulation for High Voltage

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Research Scientist to join an international R&D team in Baden-Daettwil, Aargau, focused on gas insulation for high-voltage applications. The team develops eco-efficient solutions for high-voltage equipment, working on advanced research and industrial implementation of gas-insulated switchgear, with collaboration across research centers and business units.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute actively to research projects in gas insulation applications
• Investigate dielectric strength, dielectric recovery and partial discharge
• Plan and execute high-voltage experimental studies
• Model, simulate and interpret gas discharge phenomena
• Develop innovative concepts for gas-insulated technologies
• Support the design and optimisation of HV switchgear
• Collaborate with global teams and external research institutes
• Document results, publish findings and present work at international conferences

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field with application in high-voltage engineering
• Strong knowledge of gas insulation and discharge physics
• Practical experience in HV testing
• Solid English communication skills and a structured working style
• Experience in industrial R&D is very beneficial

• Simulation tools such as MATLAB, Python or COMSOL
• Analysis of complex datasets and interpretation using statistical methods and modern AI tools
