Senior Bioprocess Engineer, Downstream Processing (DSP)

About the role

Join Lonza's world‑class biomanufacturing site in Visp and lead downstream processing campaigns in a GMP environment. You will combine hands‑on manufacturing support with engineering expertise to ensure safe, compliant and reliable production of life‑changing therapies.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical expert for downstream processing manufacturing campaigns, providing shop‑floor support from preparation through close‑out.
• Lead investigations, root‑cause analyses, CAPAs, change controls and risk assessments to resolve deviations and improve process robustness.
• Analyze performance data to increase plant throughput, yields, equipment reliability and cycle times.
• Partner with Manufacturing, MSAT, QA, QC, Validation, Engineering and Supply Chain on technology transfers and process validation.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives and mentor junior engineers and manufacturing staff.

Required profile

• 10+ years of GMP downstream processing experience in commercial or late‑stage biopharma manufacturing.
• Proven expertise in chromatography, purification, TFF/UF‑DF operations and DSP optimization.
• Strong track record troubleshooting complex process and equipment issues in a regulated environment.
• Degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder‑management skills.
