Senior Counsel, Data Privacy & AI

About the role

The Senior Counsel, Data Privacy & AI will lead legal strategy for privacy, data protection and AI governance across a global employment technology platform. Working closely with product, engineering, security and business teams, you will embed privacy‑by‑design and responsible AI practices throughout the product lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the primary legal advisor on data privacy, data protection and AI matters across multiple jurisdictions.
• Partner with product and engineering from ideation to launch to embed privacy‑by‑design and responsible AI controls.
• Translate complex regulations into clear policies, frameworks, checklists and decision‑making standards.
• Lead DPIAs, PIAs, TIAs, data mapping, retention reviews and vendor assessments.
• Draft, review and negotiate privacy‑ and AI‑related contractual provisions, including DPAs and SCCs.
• Support incident response, breach notification and regulatory reporting.
• Prepare customer‑facing and auditor‑facing materials such as privacy questionnaires and AI governance statements.

Required profile

• Extensive knowledge of GDPR and international data transfer regimes.
• Experience advising on AI‑powered products and emerging AI regulations.
• Qualified lawyer with substantial privacy, data protection or technology law experience.
• Commercially pragmatic judgment and ability to balance regulatory risk with business growth.
• Background in HR technology, payroll, fintech or other regulated B2B SaaS environments is strongly valued.

Required skills

• Strong drafting and negotiation skills for data protection and technology agreements.
• Familiarity with privacy management tools, data discovery solutions and contract lifecycle management platforms.
• Ability to assess AI use cases, evaluate risks and design governance frameworks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication to explain complex legal concepts to non‑lawyers.
