About the role
Swiss Re is looking for a Senior Digital & Technology Risk Manager specialising in Artificial Intelligence, based in Zurich with a hybrid arrangement (at least three days in the office per week). You will shape the Group-wide approach to AI risk management within the Second Line of Defence, building governance frameworks, policies and independent oversight so that AI risk is managed responsibly.
Key responsibilities
- Design and evolve the AI risk framework, governance model and control objectives, defining KPIs and KRIs for senior management.
- Monitor policy adherence and implementation maturity, and contribute to the Group Operational Risk Management Framework.
- Lead the lifecycle of AI risk policies and standards owned by Risk Management, from development and stakeholder consultation to governance approval and review.
- Keep policies aligned with the Group framework, enterprise policy architecture and regulatory expectations.
- Translate emerging AI risks and regulatory developments into practical risk management requirements and guidance.
- Provide independent Second Line of Defence oversight and challenge of First Line AI risk management practices and controls.
- Lead or contribute to risk-based thematic reviews of material AI risk exposures.
- Advise senior management and Business Units on AI risk exposure and risk acceptance, and prepare decision-relevant AI risk reporting.
- Assess emerging AI risks from generative and agentic AI, autonomous systems and workplace AI adoption, keeping oversight proportionate and practical.
Required profile
- At least seven years of relevant experience in operational risk, technology risk, AI governance, risk advisory or assurance, preferably in a complex international organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in independent risk assessment, oversight and challenge, ideally in a Second Line of Defence function.
- Experience developing, reviewing or contributing to enterprise policies, standards or risk methodologies.
- Proven ability to lead risk assessments or thematic reviews and communicate clear conclusions to senior stakeholders.
- Excellent written and spoken English, able to work independently in a global environment and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
Required skills
- Strong practical understanding of AI technologies, including generative and agentic AI, their risks, governance and controls.
- Nice to have: academic qualification in Risk Management, AI, IT, Computer Science or a related field.
- Nice to have: certifications such as IAPP AIGP, CRISC, CISA or CISSP.
- Nice to have: experience in financial services, insurance or reinsurance, and familiarity with NIST AI Risk Management Framework and ISO/IEC 42001.
What we offer
- Base salary in Switzerland of 128,000 to 192,000 CHF for a full-time role, adjusted to the candidate's profile.
- Performance-based variable compensation.
- Global and location-specific benefits.
