Senior Humanitarian Affairs Advisor – Geneva

About the role

The Senior Humanitarian Affairs Advisor will act as the primary liaison between CIVIC and the diplomatic and humanitarian community in Geneva. Working from the organization’s global humanitarian diplomacy hub, the Advisor will shape influence strategies to keep civilian protection at the forefront of humanitarian, human‑rights and security discussions.

Key responsibilities

• Cultivate and manage high‑level relationships with Permanent Missions, UN agencies, ICRC, OHCHR and other multilateral actors.
• Serve as the focal point for CIVIC’s engagement with Swiss MoFA counterparts (FDFA/PHRD, Mediation Unit, SDC) and support Swiss‑funded initiatives such as the Geneva PoC Dialogue 2026.
• Strengthen engagement with DFAT, the Australian Mission in Geneva, and relevant Canberra‑based stakeholders.
• Coordinate preparation, follow‑up and reporting for multilateral forums and diplomatic missions to ensure civilian protection remains a core agenda.
• Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on humanitarian diplomacy, policy trends and partnership opportunities.

Required profile

• Significant experience in humanitarian diplomacy, policy engagement or protection of civilians.
• Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with senior officials in UN agencies, diplomatic missions and NGOs.
• Strong understanding of the Swiss and international humanitarian landscape, including funding mechanisms.
• Senior‑level professional with excellent analytical and communication skills.
