Senior Legal Counsel – Europe

About the role

General Motors Europe is looking for an experienced lawyer to join its legal team in Zurich as Senior Legal Counsel. Reporting to the Regional General Counsel for EMEA, ANZ, and India, the role serves as a key business partner, delivering proactive legal support across commercial, regulatory, and strategic initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage GM Europe’s legal affairs under the supervision of the Regional General Counsel.
• Provide proactive legal services for corporate, commercial, distribution, sales and marketing, product safety, employment, litigation, competition, privacy, ESG, real estate, and IT matters.
• Direct external counsel and collaborate with a global legal team of over 200 lawyers.
• Communicate effectively across internal and external functions and support cross‑functional projects.
• Act as a strategic business partner, aligning legal advice with company goals.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of top‑tier private practice or in‑house experience, preferably in manufacturing, consumer products, technology, or automotive sectors.
• Proven integrity and alignment with GM’s “Winning with Integrity” value.
• Strong strategic management experience and business‑oriented mindset.
• Excellent communication, humility, self‑awareness, and ability to manage multiple large‑scale projects.
• Track record of building collaborative relationships with business units in fast‑paced environments.
