Senior Software Engineer – AI Engineering

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer in AECOM’s AI Engineering team in Zug, you will develop AI‑driven software that directly influences the design and construction of infrastructure. Your work will help reduce waste, cut CO₂ emissions and make the built environment more sustainable.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain backend services, APIs and data pipelines that power AI‑driven engineering products.
• Evolve system architecture, make trade‑offs on database design, scalability and performance, and ensure reliable production operation.
• Own end‑to‑end delivery from problem definition through implementation, deployment and ongoing support.
• Collaborate with ML engineers and domain experts to integrate models, create deployment and monitoring capabilities, and optimise AI workloads.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong hands‑on Python programming experience building production‑grade backend applications.
• Proven ownership of complex production systems, with ability to explain design decisions and outcomes.
• Solid system‑design judgement and experience diagnosing production issues.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills in a lean, autonomous team.
