Senior Software Engineer, Health and Home Infrastructure

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Health and Home Infrastructure team in Zurich, you will build and maintain the software infrastructure that powers products used by millions of people every day. The Platforms and Devices team covers Google's computing software platforms across desktop, mobile and applications, as well as its own devices and services, combining Google AI, software and hardware. The role sits within the broader mission of developing technologies that help billions of users connect, explore and interact with information.

Key responsibilities

• Advance preventive health care by predicting health risks such as high blood pressure and insulin resistance from fitness and medical data.
• Bring machine learning research into products by partnering with research teams.
• Build machine learning infrastructure for large-scale model training and evaluation.
• Improve and maintain the infrastructure so it runs smoothly with minimal toil.
• Build data pipelines for large-scale machine learning datasets of highly sensitive fitness and medical data.
• Drive platform unification and simplicity.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience in software development.
• 3 years of experience designing, building and operating large-scale machine learning infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Preferred: experience architecting scalable machine learning pipelines, from dataset management to automated model training, and deep-dive forensics on distributed systems to root-cause failures across languages and frameworks.

Required skills

• Software development in C++ or Python, with a strong background in systems programming (preferred).
• Experience with large-scale machine learning infrastructure and distributed systems.
