Senior Software Engineer, Search Ads in AI Experiences

About the role

Google's Ads Targeting team is responsible for reinventing Search Ads for the AI era (AI Overview, AI Mode), building next-generation commercial experiences that help users discover and engage with businesses. The team works closely with Google Research and DeepMind and applies machine learning and Generative AI models such as Gemini. The role involves owning projects end-to-end, from idea to implementation, and is open to switching teams and projects as the business grows.

Key responsibilities

• Own projects end-to-end, from initial idea to design, analysis and implementation.
• Perform model training, evaluation and deployment to solve business-critical problems, including exploring new model architectures, augmenting training data, improving evaluation methods and feedback signals, and identifying headroom opportunities.
• Understand production systems and visualize, monitor and optimize their performance.
• Stay up to date with the latest tools and research, working with collaborators in Google Research and DeepMind.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of software development experience in C++ and Python.
• 3 years of experience in deep learning, reinforcement learning, generative AI or another ML field.
• 3 years of experience with ML infrastructure (model deployment, evaluation, data processing, debugging).
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining or launching software products, and 1 year in software design and architecture.
• Preferred: Master's or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, 5 years with data structures and algorithms, 1 year in a technical leadership role, and experience developing accessible technologies.
