Site Reliability Engineer – Infrastructure Systems

About the role

Proton is looking for a Site Reliability Engineer to join its Infrastructure Systems team. You will help design, operate, and improve the core platforms that power Proton’s suite of privacy‑focused services, ensuring they remain reliable, secure, and performant at global scale.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and optimise a rapidly growing global fleet of thousands of servers across cloud, VM, and bare‑metal environments.
• Develop automation and reliability tooling to maintain 99.95%+ uptime.
• Participate in on‑call rotation, diagnosing complex incidents in diverse network and censorship scenarios.
• Build and enhance monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions for real‑time infrastructure visibility.
• Engineer improvements to connectivity, stability, performance, scalability, security, and resilience.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of Linux internals, networking stack, and kernel tuning.
• Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes orchestration and infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Terraform, Ansible or Puppet.
• Proficiency in Python for automation and scripting.
• Ability to design highly available, distributed systems.
• Familiarity with security best practices for infrastructure.
