Software Engineer III, Information Security

About the role

Google is hiring a Software Engineer III, Information Security, within its Core team, which builds the technical foundation behind Google's flagship products, developer platforms, product components and infrastructure. The role focuses on memory safety and security across Google's software systems, with the possibility of working in Munich, Germany or Zürich, Switzerland.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement new techniques for extremely large-scale software systems across many product teams.
• Help deploy exploit mitigations, retrofit spatial safety to C++ and move Google toward memory-safe languages such as Rust.
• Build strong partnerships with partner teams in Google's Memory Safety program, as well as with industry and academia.
• Fix memory safety across Google products, from initial security research and tactical exploit mitigations to engineering away classes of problems and addressing their root causes.
• Research and apply innovative techniques for memory safety, from program analysis to machine learning.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of software development experience in one or more programming languages, or 1 year with an advanced degree.
• 2 years of experience building software for data privacy or security (e.g., identity and access management).
• Preferred: Master's or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, and 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.

Required skills

• Preferred: experience with Rust, system architecture, compilers, open-source technologies and open-source contribution.
• Preferred: security and API design experience, and foundations in security engineering, computer and network security.

What we offer

• Germany: €106,000 - €108,000 plus a 15% bonus target, equity and benefits.
