Staff Engineer - Identity and Access Management

About the role

As a Staff Engineer for Identity and Access Management you will be the principal technical authority for the identity services that power On’s global ecosystem, covering workforce, partners, digital consumers and cloud workloads. This senior individual‑contributor role blends deep engineering craft with cross‑functional collaboration and strategic systems architecture.

Key responsibilities

• Drive large‑scale IAM engineering and architecture initiatives end‑to‑end across global platforms, ensuring security, resilience and seamless user experience.
• Engage with Cybersecurity, Platform Engineering, Cloud Infrastructure, Product, Privacy, Legal and Business Operations to align on complex access problems.
• Anticipate technical and organizational friction in identity lifecycles, balancing security controls with velocity and usability.
• Mentor engineers and security teams, share best practices and elevate the organization’s identity security maturity.
• Champion modern automation, Infrastructure as Code and Zero Trust paradigms to reduce technical debt and operational toil.

Required profile

• Extensive hands‑on experience designing, scaling and operating mission‑critical workforce and consumer identity architectures at global scale.
• Holistic understanding of software engineering, cloud environments and API security, with identity as a foundational layer.
• Proven ability to communicate technical risks to non‑technical stakeholders and build authentic cross‑functional relationships.
• Calm, solution‑oriented approach during high‑pressure incidents or complex migrations.

Required skills

• OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML 2.0, SCIM 2.0, WebAuthn/Passkeys, PAM patterns
• Cloud platforms: GCP, AWS, Azure
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Zero Trust architectures
• Modern DevOps pipelines and API security
