Staff Software Engineer - Market Data

About the role

A partner company, listed on behalf of a third party, is recruiting a Staff Software Engineer for a market data platform in Switzerland. The role is a senior individual contributor position in a remote-first, international team, combining backend engineering, streaming infrastructure and financial data. You will take technical ownership of distributed systems that ingest, process, normalise, store and deliver real-time feeds and historical datasets to institutional customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and operate distributed backend systems for real-time market data from blockchain networks and other financial sources
• Maintain streaming infrastructure handling event ordering, timestamps, duplicates, replay, missing data and recovery, including blockchain reorganisations and transaction finality
• Build reliable client-facing data feeds and APIs with delivery guarantees, evolving schemas and access controls
• Work with cross-functional teams on reference data models, historical data capture and new data sources
• Define and improve SLOs and data quality metrics, and investigate production issues with root cause analysis
• Own services end to end, including deployment, monitoring, support and on-call rotation
• Integrate AI-assisted development tools and share effective workflows with colleagues
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical discussions

Required profile

• Extensive experience with distributed backend systems or data services with demanding reliability and performance requirements
• Experience owning software systems end to end, from design to operations
• Strong technical leadership, mentoring and communication skills in a remote, distributed setting
• Financial or market data experience is valuable; blockchain indexing (EVM-compatible networks or Solana) and reference data systems are a plus

Required skills

• Real-time streaming systems: concurrency, state management, backpressure, event processing and recovery
• Data correctness: timestamp handling, numerical precision, schema evolution, event ordering and consistency
• Rust, Go or comparable languages
