Vice President, External Manufacturing

About the role

The Vice President, External Manufacturing leads Bristol Myers Squibb’s global external manufacturing network, spanning product development and supply for biologics, pharmaceuticals, and cell therapies. This senior leader is responsible for shaping strategy, ensuring high‑quality, cost‑competitive supply, and driving digital transformation across a complex ecosystem of CMOs and CDMOs.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the long‑term global external manufacturing strategy aligned with enterprise supply‑chain goals.
• Create an operating model that integrates early‑phase CDMOs with late‑stage CMOs for seamless clinical‑to‑commercial manufacturing.
• Partner with Business Development, Portfolio Strategy, and Finance to align capacity with pipeline progression and commercial demand.
• Develop 3‑5‑year contingency plans and strategic optionality for a rapidly evolving global environment.
• Lead a matrixed organization of 600+ employees across the US, Europe, and Asia, ensuring reliable, high‑quality supply of products.
• Own the AI and digital strategy for external manufacturing, driving digital transformation initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience overseeing large external manufacturing networks and CMOs/CDMOs.
• Deep knowledge of biologics, pharmaceutical, and cell‑therapy manufacturing processes.
• Strong track record of strategic planning, financial stewardship, and cross‑functional partnership.
• Experience managing global, matrixed teams and ensuring compliance with cGMP standards.
